ESMI Strengthens Global Impact: Representatives Elected to AGI Steering Committee
In November 2024, three ESMI representatives, Thomas Klockgether, Jennifer Faber, and Matthis Synofzik were elected to the Steering Committee of the Ataxia Global Initiative (AGI). Subsequently, the AGI Steering Committee elected Thomas Klockgether as its Chair. The AGI (https://ataxia-global-initiative.net/ ) is a worldwide research platform that has the goal to facilitate the clinical development of therapies for ataxias. Currently, AGI has more than 500 members from five continents. AGI has a particular focus on harmonization of biomarkers and outcome measure, education and training, and multicenter trial readiness services. Together with the National Ataxia Foundation (NAF), Ataxia UK, and the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), AGI is one of the organizers of the International Congress for Ataxia Research (ICAR), which is held every two years. The visibility and impact of ESMI will be sustainably increased through the representation of ESMI investigators in the AGI Steering Committee.
